As we hunker down into 2015, most everyone I know has resolved to find some time to curl up by the fire with a hot toddy or glass of wine and read. First up on my reading list was R•Home magazine featuring Dana Gibson’s home on the cover. I snapped a copy up the moment I saw it at the grocery and settled in to the view the eye candy as soon as my Christmas decorations were put away.

If you have followed The Gracious Posse for any period of time, you know that we are huge fans of this RVA gal and her variety of products for the well-dressed home. We have featured her here, here and here as we have watched in admiration and delight as her talent and offerings explode all over the design world. Her fresh take on traditional patterns has captured the attention and imagination of the stylish set looking to add color in a sophisticated yet approachable way in their homes.

Dana’s own home beautifully illustrates how to use the fabrics and wallpapers in her Stroheim line and some of the furnishings from her new partnership with The M|T Company to live in comfortable style. Innately on-trend, she has added pops of color to a neutral and forgiving base (e.g. white Sunbrella upholstery) for a welcoming home that also accommodates the needs of her two teenage sons and contractor husband.

To the wallpaper, reupholstery and new furnishings, Dana combines other items that she loves. Artwork from and by her great-grandfather, Charles Dana Gibson who created the famous 1890’s Gibson Girl, as well as her mother, Casa Bacot, are featured throughout, while vintage rugs and furnishings provide a contrasting mix that suits her design sensibilities.

The total effect is a bright and airy refuge where this savvy and sophisticated artist can recharge amongst the people and possessions she loves most. Isn’t that what most of us want in our homes?
At the start of this new year, Dana’s uncluttered and happy spaces reinforce my desire to purge everything that doesn’t make me happy, whether for its beauty or usefulness.
Overall, decor should add pleasure and joy to our lives.

Once again this gracious lady and kind supporter of The Gracious Posse has inspired me to start rethinking my nest. It’s no wonder I
stalk follow her on Facebook and collect photos featuring her work on our Pinterest board, Dana Gibson Design Spottings. Wait until you see the surprise this cover girl has for us on Wednesday. We think you will love it as much as we love Dana!

If you have been following The Gracious Posse, you know that we have a posse crush on Designer’s Darling, Dana Gibson. A few months ago, we dropped by her atelier to see what was new. Dana shared her new line of wallpapers and fabrics with venerable fabric house Stroheim. I was thrilled to see them
and on some of her
If you are a fan of shelter magazines or design blogs, you likely have seen
the colorful ads for Dana’s modern classic line. We have started a Pinterest board, Spotting Local Designer, Dana Gibson, to keep track of all her on-line mentions. Obsessed? Maybe a little.
Despite my admiration of Dana’s new line, I actually had not seen any of her Stroheim wallpapers installed in a real home setting until this week. I had headed to jBr’s rivah house to help/observe as a few of local designer Janie Molster’s associates were performing a furniture installation. As I was scoping out a future post on jBr’s fully renovated home which was just completed, I was surprised and delighted to walked into this guest bath.
Maybe you aren’t supposed to show a toilet on a blog, but this bathroom is sooo fabulous.
I have been trying to figure out how I can use Dana’s “Twig” pattern in the Grass or Turquiose colorway in my house,
and now I know for sure that I must have it somewhere.
We can’t wait to show you the rest of this beautifully executed home when all of the furniture arrives and the punchlist is completed.
In the meantime, though, we hope that you have enjoyed this sneak peak and whet your appetite for more design delights from this

Ever since these gorgeous ads starting popping up in the latest issues of the shelter magazines
I have been excited to stop by Dana Gibson’s studio/storefront to see her latest creations in person. When we interviewed Dana last fall for Designers’ Darling, Dana Gibson, Dana hinted about an upcoming fabric and wallpaper partnership that was well over a year in the making, but we had no idea it would be with such a venerable design house. A division of Fabricut, Stroheim
(e)stablished in 1865, [is] a premier fabric house known worldwide as a leading resource for exquisite, fine quality fabrics, trimmings and wallcovering for the most discerning clientele.
Dana Gibson’s line fits that description perfectly. The fabrics and wallcoverings look and feel gorgeous. The new books sit just inside the door
of what now should be called her atelier since she has made it to the big leagues in the design world. The offerings are exquisite
and so on trend with designers’ cravings for bright colors. Some of the fabrics are covering one-of-a-kind pieces that she has for sale on-site.
Stroheim used some of Dana’s own furniture
in the ad shoots including this gorgeous bench, which actually has gold leaf highlights.
Dana is now selling the bench for a steal at $450.
Dana hand-painted the fabric on this chair and pillow a while back,
and it became the basis for this design in her line for Stroheim.
In addition to the new fabrics and wallcoverings, which you can order through designers and design stores like Williams & Sherrill, Dana just received a shipment of her new lamp designs that are being sent to design stores like Ruth & Ollie all over the country. These new dragon designs
captured my heart
and instantly brought to mind two of my favorite bloggers, The Pink Pagoda and Chinoserie Chic. The lamps are made of metal yet look and feel like ceramic. These striped numbers also command attention.
Don’t they look fabulous with her fabrics?
Energy and creativity ooze out of Dana and fill her studio/store, where you can also score some great seconds. When I popped in unannounced to take these pictures, she was excited to show me a little something that she had just started playing with on the reverse side of an old piece of chintz.
Maybe a subsequent version of it will show up in a new Stroheim collection down the road.
The Gracious Posse is such an admirer of how Dana has turned her talents into a unique brand that the design world adores. Her modern take on traditional designs adds happiness to any room that it happens to grace. We are so enamored that we have even creating the Pinterest board, Spotting Local Designer, Dana Gibson. This YouTube video provides another glimpse of Dana and her fresh designs.
If you follow interior design magazines or blogs, you undoubtedly have seen the work of RVA’s own Dana Gibson. Her work pops up here, there and everywhere (i.e. One Kings Lane). It will even make an appearance at THINK PINK sans Dana who now only has time for the mega-trade shows in New York, Atlanta and High Point. While she will be represented at THINK PINK by Anne Taylor, she graciously agreed to let The Gracious Posse photograph her studio and local showroom outlet located on Horsepen Road and talked to us about her creative process and the business of design.
Dana started her decorative arts business as Moses Spring 19 years ago.
After encouragement from her family (including sister Sarah Gibson Wiley of Huger Embroidery, another THINK PINK vendor) and friends, she reverted to using her maiden name Gibson, of the Gibson Girl and Charles Dana Gibson (her great grandfather) fame. Her first designs consisted of smaller floral ceramics
perfect for the English country look then so popular, especially in Richmond.
As decorating tastes have evolved to a less fussy look, so too have Dana’s designs.
She seamlessly moved into metal tole
urns and lamps,
picture frames. How amazing is this
pagoda lantern hanging in her studio?
Now her designs include painted fabrics
(Designers are crazy for this tiger pillow cover.) Dana expects upcoming licensing deals to include wallpaper and rugs.
Dana’s showroom in RVA
includes current and former collections, as well as seconds, and fronts her studio where she designs her creations that are then manufactured and hand-painted in India.
The building also serves as her warehouse fulfillment center.
We are delighted that Dana Gibson’s designs will be part of our vendor showcase for THINK PINK. Many of the vendors are donating door prizes, and Dana is no exception. Two of her travel bags (the pink ones on the right above) will be included on Friday night. We sure hope that we will see you there: please let us know if you are coming.
