As the Saturday night wedding reception rolled into Sunday morning, the bride and groomed prepared to leave. The remaining well-wishers lined the stairs and path the newlyweds would take to the vintage car and their new life together. Sparklers were distributed to provide a glowing sendoff tunnel for the glamorous couple.
While the lighting proceeded, one of the revelers began,
Oh, say can you see
and the crowd immediately joined in singing the complete version of our national anthem. The joyful and spontaneous exhibition of patriotism reflected collective happiness that we are blessed to live in such a remarkable country. With all the vitriol and divisiveness we see on our screens everyday, it was comforting to feel the deep-seeded love for our country being manifested by a group comprised largely of millenials.
The sing-a-long left me filled with hope for the future and looking forward to saluting our country with another round of the Star-Spangled Banner today. Happy Independence Day, fellow citizens!
