In our tradition-heavy town, wreaths are often the daytime highlight of a family’s outdoor Christmas decor. Some simply tie a red ribbon to a live or faux green wreath, stick it on their six-paned Georgian door and check that chore off the list. Gracious others consider their wreath a hospitable opportunity to display their sense of style, adding to our visual pleasure of the season. I find myself getting whiplash while traversing RVA’s residential streets trying to get a better glimpse of their eye-catching creations, which generally fall into one of four categories.
As we mentioned last week, the natural trend is big but that by no means means boring. Simple and elegant or luscious and full, these examples enhance tradition.
Anytime you put greens on a blue door, you’ve got an eye-pleasing combination of analogous colors. The blues help the green wreaths pop, as you can see from many of the examples above. In addition to the blue-green combos, in other examples, the homeowners have added ribbons and embellishments that match or complement the door colors. They obviously understand curb appeal.
The most exuberant, glam wreaths may be in complementary shades as the last four lovelies above or contrast with the door color and house for big pops of shiny and bright. Navigating the fine line between glamorous and tacky can be tricky. These homeowners share the joy of Christmas without being gaudy.
Finally, these two wreaths capture the delight of Christmases past. What child wouldn’t want to run into these homes to see what Christmas magic awaits inside? These homeowners have embraced the true meaning of the holiday.
Annually to a fresh boxwood wreath the mother of sSn’s best friend attaches these ornaments that she has been collecting for sSn every year since her marriage
We hope you’ve enjoyed this round-up of some of the welcoming wreaths that captured our attention this year. Maybe these along with our wreath posts from 2014 and 2015 will inspire you to change-up your wreath game come next year. Christmas blessings to the stylish homeowners who make our travels to and fro’ a bit merrier.
