Happy 2016, Gracious Readers! Can you believe that it’s January 5th already? How are your New Year’s resolutions coming along? Over the past week, the blogsphere has been filled with resolutions and goal-setting strategies. It seems that having a theme for your New Year’s resolutions has become all the rage.
#LightenUp!
Always the trendsetter;), for at least the last six years my New Year’s resolution has consisted of the theme
This simple phrase expresses pretty succinctly how I want to approach virtually every part of my life. From how I treat my family, to what is going on the table, to cleaning my cupboards and minimizing my global footprint, this resolution so describes how I want to live that I have come to think of it as my mantra. I wish I could say that I consider it every time I make a decision: that’s my goal.
#ALLIN
Ever since I got to Miami last week for the Orange Bowl, I’ve been toying with the idea of a second theme for my resolutions of 2016. Inspired by the Clemson Tigers’s mantra ALL IN, I’m inclined to make a similar commitment.
The beauty of ALL IN, like Lighten Up, is that it can be applied to a lot of different situations at different times. For me, ALL IN serve as reminder to be present at the moment in everything that I am doing and giving that moment everything I’ve got to give. It also means making choices that will allow you to give everything you can. To be ALL IN, you have to put on blinders to distractions and stay focused on what you are doing in the moment. While being ALL IN won’t get me to the Natty like the Tigers, I really want to stay focused on my goals just like this undefeated team has done all season.
Put Goals in Writing
With my New Year’s themes decided, it’s time to set goals to achieve them. According to the experts, the only way to reach your goals is to write them down and include in your list the mileposts you will need to meet along the way. Once written down, you should regularly review where you stand vis-a-vis your mileposts and goals.
I’ve never been one to plan too far in advance or articulate goals and envision the milestones that it will take to get there. That might explain more than a few things about me. Looks like Writing down goals and milestones should go at the top of my list, and then I’ve got some work to do.
Do you write down your resolutions, goals and milestones? What’s going at the top of your list for 2016? Please share as together we try to make 2016 the best year possible.
