Last year at this time I spotted this berry-laden pyracantha which prompted me to investigate an old wives’ tale about abundant berries being a predictor of a harsh winter.
As you no doubt recall, or maybe you’d rather not, we had one heckuva winter in 2014.

So this year as I passed the same shrub at the same time, I did a jig when I saw its scant few berries.
Next spring we’ll circle back to evaluate Winter 2015 (the approaching polar vortex notwithstanding) and see if we have the beginnings of The Gracious Posse Almanac! Keep your fingers crossed for a mild winter and that we are on to something.
