Tomorrow is May Day which has long been symbolized by one of the most delightful flowers ever to bloom.
Small of stature yet overflowing with sweet fragrance, the lily of the valley humbly greets the new month with grace and beauty.
Happiest when they are ignored in their shady beds, these shy ladies hold no interest for foraging deer, so my small bed yields much delight.
In France, lily of the valley bouquets are given to loved ones in celebration of the holiday and springtime.
They are also symbols of good luck, especially if the stalk has 13 bells.
I’ll be counting as I harvest them this Garden Week.
