Project Runway is one of my guilty pleasures, so you can imagine my delight Friday night when we entered the tents for the 9th Annual Treasures in Paradise to benefit the World Pediatric Project. My fantasy of New York Fashion Week in Bryant Park come to life. So many beautiful people mingling about until the chairs of the night, Ida and Bart Farinholt and Betsy and Bobby Fauntleroy, and
Spring 2014 designs were on display from a selection of Roan’s designers. While the upbeat fashions set the tone for the whole evening, the tropical leaves reflected in the lighting on the tent-top reminded the patrons that the beneficiaries of this event are children in Central America and the Eastern Caribbean who face life-threatening medical conditions. Though I was fortunate to have a second row seat, as a runway novice, my iPhone photos don’t do justice to the styles or their models. Here’s a taste, though, of the WP Project Runway experience RVA style.

After a runway filled with treasures (both models and clothing) and a performance by local children with SPARC singing Can’t You Feel a Brand New Day from The Wiz, the audience was warmed up and ready to start bidding on some of the most amazing vacation packages that I have ever seen donated. Talk about Treasures in Paradise ~ from gloriously tropical spots like Mustique, Belize, St. Vincent and the Bahamas to the Galapagos, Italy and Nantucket. The proceeds from the evening allow top pediatric doctors to take volunteer mission trips to the countries served by the WPP where they perform critical care for children in need, as well as bring the most severe cases to U.S. hospitals. Those children are the real treasures in paradise, and the WPP committee did a great job keeping them the focus of the evening.
If you are seeking Treasures in Paradise, plan to put next year’s event on your calendar. We will let you know when the invitations to this seriously fashionable night come out and will look forward to seeing you by the runway.
