How often do you have the quandary when you want to go out for lunch or dinner:
Sounds fun, but where should we go?
The Gracious Posse has a new entrant to recommend in the ever-improving restaurant scene in RVA: Wild Ginger.
Alison and I chose Wild Ginger to celebrate kMg‘s birthday in February. We’d heard buzz about “this cool Asian place south of the river” and thought her birthday would be a nice reason to make the field trip over there.
I wasn’t kidding about the field trip. Located in a cute shopping center at the corner of Robious Road and Winterfield Road in Midlothian, it’s “out there” for most of us. But the bucolic scenery we passed made the journey memorable.
Wild Ginger’s lunch menu offers something for everyone’s taste palette. Several of us ordered the tuna sashimi salad which was one of the best I’ve eaten (it’s like key lime pie to me: I’m always searching for the best).
The birthday girl opted for the Kobe Beef Burger with decadent sweet potato fries.
We wrapped up our lovely lunch with coffee and cake.
Walking out of the restaurant, several mused that we’d like to try it for dinner. When my husband’s birthday rolled around and all of my children were home to celebrate, I knew this would be a crowd-pleaser. It did not disappoint.
When we arrived on a Saturday night, the place was hopping and packed. Numerous patrons gathered in the bar to enjoy beverages and a sports event on the big screen television.
The water feature made a dramatic backdrop behind the chef’s prep station.
We were greeted and seated on time, our server was knowledgable and attentive, but the star of the show was the food. We started with bowls of edamame and a small plate called Flaming Avacado.
The dinner menu presented so many sushi and sashimi options. After much debate, we ordered the Sushi Family sampler along with soups and salads.
We were tempted by the yummy dessert choices but declined knowing my Coconut Pound Cake awaited us at home.
Whether you need a posse gathering or a fun dinner out, Wild Ginger is a delicious destination.
